I gotta be honest and tell you that a couple of weekends ago I had, well….let’s call it a moment….
Actually, that is not true. A moment is short lived. Girl, this was basically my entire weekend. I’m talking multiple events, many foods that weren’t the best choice, quite a few adult beverages, and not nearly enough moving. Yep. It happened. I am human.
And since I know we are so similar, I’m betting that you’ve had a few weekends like that in your lifetime too!
When Monday morning rolled around I felt like I had been hit by a truck. Uber bloaty/inflamed, cotton mouth, kind of sore all over, and an unhappy tummy. Yuck!
Here’s the bright side of this story….I have an “emergency checklist.” It’s true! My four-step plan to get my body back to feeling it’s best as soon as humanly possible. And let me just tell you – I got to freaking work on it! Feeling icky is no fun at all, and I did NOT want it to lead to regret for my weekend fun so I just course corrected and kept on moving.
I’m betting you’d like to know the steps I took to help my body recover and feel great again, huh? You got it!
#1 – Sweat it out. Yes, ma’am, I got up and went for that cardio workout that I didn’t really want to do but I knew how much better I would start to feel from a good old-fashioned sweat the ick out session.
#2 – In case you didn’t know, carby foods inflame us. Yes, I know it is hard to hear but it is true. So for a few days, I cut way back on my overall carb consumption. I wanted the puff gone, certainly not add to it.
#3 – Water, water, water! I upped my intake to 1 and half times what I normally consume because hydration is so important for our bodies to let go of the ick. I’m serious drink up!
#4 – I went to bed almost two hours early that Monday night, and at least one the next couple of nights. Our bodies are pretty magical if we let them be, and the extra rest allows them to show us what they can do.
By Wednesday morning, I popped out of bed ready to slay the day!
So next time “life happens” to you, put my checklist into place and trust me you’ll feel better faster.
